What is adrenal burnout?

Our adrenals support cortisol (stress) production and breakdown throughout the day. If our adrenals are overworked from too much stress (triggered by physical and emotional stressors) and can no longer keep up with the high demand of cortisol break down, it'll slow down activity, ultimately leading to burnout symptoms like chronic fatigue, inflammation, constantly feeling revved up/unable to relax, low mood, highly irritable, weight loss resistance/unintentional weight gain, poor sleep quality, etc.

Here are 4 ways to start your adrenal recovery:

1- Nourish your adrenals through food! Ramp up more whole food vitamin C intake - foods like citrus fruits, bell peppers, strawberries, cruciferous veggies. Increase potassium-rich foods like coconut and coconut water, aloe vera juice, bananas, grapefruit, potatoes, Brussels Sprouts. High quality sodium is also helpful, I love Redmond's sea salt or celtic salt. An adrenal cocktail is a great way to get all of these nutrients in at once!

2- Reduce inflammation in the body by increasing Omega-3 foods like salmon, oysters, seeds or nuts- you can even try a high quality fish oil supplement.

3 - Support your Circadian Rhythm, our bodies biological clock, to realign your natural energy production during the day. Prioritize a consistent night and morning routine. Magnesium is a great mineral you can supplement to promote calmness and more restful sleep.

4- Too much HIIT or high impact workouts can be adding physical stress to the burnout fire. Switch it up by incorporating more low impact, gentle movement like walking, pilates, yoga and deep breathing exercises more often.
